In February I visited the USF Botanical Garden and enjoyed my walk around the property. Much to my surprise they had the old MOSI bioworks signs for their butterfly garden. I’ve been looking for an opportunity to volunteer and use my creative and computer design skills, and learned they were interested in having an online interactive map made for the property. Bingo! The gardener was also interested in having a “what’s in bloom” section, that would show what’s currently flowering during the current months.

V0.3 – May 4th 2021

I recently discovered Google My Maps. It allows you to create custom maps that overlay onto the Google map system. Using the mobile app, you can add way-points to your current GPS location. This solved the issue of inaccurate placements, and made it significantly easier to create everything. The only annoyance is you cannot create your own roads, so instead I had to draw a line (roughly) where the main pathway is. For my part, the map is complete. I am now awaiting the head gardener to add info, and the university to implement it.

V0.2 – March 27th 2021

I updated the concept to be more presentable. It now had a popup-textbox, a code that would show what month period it is (for what’s in bloom), and various optimizations. We are currently awaiting feedback from the university.

V0.1 – March 14th 2021

I created an initial concept in about 20 minutes. It had 5 clickable areas and would display text over the lake with info about the area. The gardener was thrilled with this possibility.

2.0

After selling my Tesla Stock, working at Universal, and people watching my YouTube channel, I was finally able to make The Grid 2.0. It uses a Fractal Design Define R6 case, ASUS Prime Z390-A motherboard, 32 GB of ram, and Intel Core i7-9700F processor. Only after receiving these parts (my dorm was quite cramped!) did I find out that my current power supply cable wouldn’t reach everything. Probably for the better as it was 7 years old at this point, and used non-modular cables. So add an EVGA Supernova 550 power supply to that list too.

1.2

In 2016 The Grid was updated with a NVIDIA Geforce 970 graphics card, an additional 1 TB SSD, and then an Elgato capture card in 2019.

1.0

In 2013 The Grid started its life as a stock Dell XPS 8700 computer, with an Intel Core i7-4700 processor, 16 GB ram, 1 TB HDD, disk drive, and no-name graphic processor. In 2014 It would go on to power the RedstoneMC Server.

Original Post:

After getting stuck in development hell, I am pleased to finally release ArcadeTonic for FREE (with ads) to the public on Kongregate. ArcadeTonic gives you the experience of the arcade, without the money! Featuring 8 legally ambiguous games, from coin pushers to air hockey, your <del>guaranteed</del> sure to find your favorite! If it does well I will add more games and upgrades.

So what the hell happened anyway? If you watched my announcement of the project on YouTube (click here) you will have noted that at the end it says that I will have an open beta in September 2018. That didn’t happen. Its now July 2019. So, the tl;dr version is that my other app, the Rolling Marble Clock failed horribly. Only 4 people bought it, and one refunded, a $0.99 novelty app. I was initially planning to use a free-to-play model using ads and in-app purchases, but the engine that I used, Construct 3, sucks at doing that, and I spent more time trying to get that to work than making the game itself (mild exaggeration).

It was also clear that I couldn’t charge money for the app, as it would seem that people would rather *not* (to put it nicely) pay money for an app. Also adding to my problems was that the two people I was hoping would create art for me both couldn’t (Come to find out artist and digital artist are leagues apart). So I said screw it and just gave up on the project for a while. After completing the 1.13 spawn project I decided to resume work on the app and create the rest of the art myself, along with re-balancing the games since they would no longer be using a free-to-play model. And here we are today, with the app FINALLY releasing, but only as an online game and not an app. So yeah.

Updated Jul 12th 2018

<s>See blog post by clicking here</s> – changes to compatibility and minor updates

Original Post:

Please make sure you read the Project 1 post first

For our final project we had to make our own water simulation, which fulfilled these requirements: It had to have a way to change the temperature, had to be semi-accurate, and had to have a pressure reading. I created most of the project assets myself using Paint3D. Earlier versions had a way for the molecules to escape out an intentional gap at the bottom, and would “explode” (creating a large explosion picture which would delete all molecules on the screen) if the pressure became >50.

This was primarily to prevent leaking, which was an issue that no one could fully solve. In a nutshell, when the simulation ran too quickly or too many items were on screen the computer sometimes lost track of the molecules, allowing them to escape outside of the box. My solution was to “cheat” by having 3 sides be the border of the simulation, so that any leaking would be less obvious, and the “explosion” would prevent you from overwhelming the sim.

After the first round of demos the professor expressed that I should remove both my gap and explosion, hence making the final version the “anti-fun edition”. Although of the final projects mine was probably the most visually appealing and easy to use (and even works on mobile). I believe I wound up making a 93.

Original Post:

This was a group project I had to do for my intro to engineering class in college. The project was to teach children more complex words by explaining to them what it meant, and then having them do an interactive activity. As we progressed, more requirements were added, such as having to make everything touch compatible, and add voice recognition. Out of the four groups, ours was the only to have a human explain the words (the rest used text to speech). I was responsible for recording and implementing the audio you hear. I also did a good deal of debugging and code cleanup to make the file size smaller.

One day at school one of my friends showed me a .bat file he made, where you could play rock paper scissors against a computer (random number generator). I liked the concept so much that I decided to make my own C++ version which would be more advanced than his initial program. I was able to make my software keep score, determine the winner and even insult you whether you won or lost. My friend was very impressed and somewhat mad that I had stolen his concept.

When I first made this available for download you had to actually run it in Microsoft’s Visual Studio. I’ve since modified it so that its a proper .exe (which triggers a warning on windows, you can safely dismiss it), which means no other downloads are necessary to run the program.

I never made a video on this due to the lackluster response the Papers Please project received on YouTube.

I created this as my final project from a summer camp called ID Tech. It was special because it used ascii artwork, had cheat codes, achievements, colored text and even music and sound effects from the game. This was especially notable because the instructor wasn’t even sure how to get audio to play, because in C++ the engine doesn’t have a way of playing audio. What I wound up doing was calling the Groove music player to open audio files stored locally on my computer.

When I first made this available for download you had to actually run it in Microsoft’s Visual Studio. I’ve since modified it so that its a proper .exe (which triggers a warning on windows, you can safely dismiss it), which means no other downloads are necessary to run the program. I’ve also had to modify the code to remove the audio since it called on LOCAL files.
